Notice the transition
A row of buildings can give way to a garden, a strip of grass or a view between roofs. These transitions are easy to pass without noticing. Slow down and look at what changes: surfaces, sounds and the amount of sky.
Keep the walk simple
You do not need to discover a new route every time. A familiar edge can change with the weather and the season. Remain on permitted paths and avoid treating an inviting gap as an invitation to enter private land.
Bring the scale home
A distant hillside and a small courtyard can offer a similar feeling of relief after a busy street. Think about what creates that feeling: a clear view, a place to rest or simply fewer competing details.
